Revealing infamous stories and rare imagery from Chowder Bay’s 19th century 'Pleasure Grounds' and exploring the secret military operations once active inside our restaurant’s dining space, this unique experience will shine a very different light on the quiet harbour cove we know today.
Over a delicious dinner, guests can expect to rediscover spectacular structures, pandemonious picnics, horrifying explosions, unsolved mysteries and colourful characters have left their mark on this historic location over the last two centuries.

STORIES BY THE SHORE
Over a delicious dinner experience, guests will rediscover forgotten local identities such as the convict, painter and weatherman Mr Peacock and the popular Indigenous elder Ricketty Dick — once known as the ‘Chief of the Rose Bay Tribe’. The colourful lives and enduring legacies of colonial bigwigs such as Captain ‘Prince’ Piper and the influential Wentworth family of Vaucluse will also be brought to life with historical insights and imagery.
Reflecting on the changing tides of Sydney Harbour throughout the ages this unique event will recount tales of shark attacks, shipwrecks, seaplanes and historic sandstone structures over dinner at The Nielsen.
